In 2016, YWCA Sudbury applied for the Save on Energy Home Assistance Program, funded by the Independent Electricity System Operator, and delivered by Greensaver.
YWCA Sudbury is a charitable non-profit organization that provides services to women and their families since 1958. It operates Genevra House, a 32-bed shelter for women and children escaping intimate partner abuse, and Brookwood Apartments, a 10-unit apartment building for women and their children.
Through partnering with Greensaver YWCA Sudbury residents received the following measures free of charge:
- over 129 compact fluorescent light bulbs
- 8 new ENERGY STAR refrigerators
These measures led to a saving of $1,700 on the shelter’s energy bill, as well as annual savings of 11,755 kWh.
YWCA Sudbury was delighted with the results of partnering with Greensaver. “This program has helped our organization to save over $10,000 on the cost of new appliances, not to mention the savings on our electrical bills. Our electrical bills for Brookwood Apartments were actually lower this year compared to last year”, said Executive Director Marlene Gorman.
