Greensaver works with social agencies to promote free energy saving programs to owners and renters faced with costly utility bills. In 2016, we partnered with the United Way of Bruce Grey, an organization that aims to improve the lives of everyone in the local community.
The United Way was keen to collaborate with us to help residents save money at a time when utility costs were continuing to rise. As such, a system was implemented whereby it filled out applications for our low-income programs on behalf of its clients and set them directly to us.
Through partnering with Greensaver, the United Way of Bruce Grey clients received the following measures free of charge:
- 33 ENERGY STAR® Appliances (including fridges, freezers, window air conditioners, and dehumidifiers)
- Over 1,000 energy efficient lightbulbs
- Over 200 water saving measures (including low flow shower heads and tap aerators)
- Attic, wall and basement insulation and draft-proofing
These measures led to a combined saving of $125,000 on annual energy bills, as well as annual savings of around 850,000 kWh.
The United Way was delighted with the results of partnering with Greensaver. “We were thrilled to be able to help our clients and other community members access the Greensaver program, reducing consumption reduces bills, which was a win-win for the community”, said board member Holly Devlin.
